What happened if all Christians had been persecuted?

I still need to learn a lot about history and what was happening during the time that Catholics were persecuted by others. … but what happened during 1200’s? Were there any non-Catholics by then or only Catholics? What if they all had been killed and they had never fought to protect their faith?
