After the crucifixion, Jesus was laid to rest in the tomb and a guard/guards were posted so no one would remove His body.
Next we see Mary Magdela (and the other Mary-is that the Blessed Virgin?) return to the tomb and find the stone rolled away.
No mention of the guard, other than the guards reported what had happened.
Do you think the stone rolled while the guard was present and then “oops” no body in the tomb?
Anyone ever give this much thought? I’m just curious.
Thanks!

Good question!

Back then, falling asleep while on guard duty was punishable with death. So, just as speculation, the guards woke up, saw what they were supposed to be gaurding opened up, realized they were in BIG trouble and made like Iron Maiden: RUN TO THE HIIILLLLLLLS!!! 🙂

Well, in the book of Matthew, it says, “The guards were shaken with fear of him and became like dead men.” Sounds to me like they were indeed present! 😃
