can someone answer that for me…I’m getting worried, bcuz I haven’t been able to contact my sponsor:(

In my parish, a team member would step up and take the place of an errant sponsor [you are speaking about the Easter Vigil and a sponsor who is absent for a reason not related to your being adequately catechized, having expressed your desire for initiation or a profession of faith - whichever is appropriate] …

For example your sponosr is stuck on the highway where traffic has not moved for two hours due to a car wreck or being csalled away for a family emergency or work …

Contact your RCIA director and tell them about your attempts to reach or sponsor …

God Bless you and come the Vigil "Welcome to the Family 👍 "

Mention it to your RCIA teacher; they will help you find someone else. Do not worry; someone will be honoured to stand up for you. 🙂

Meanwhile, I am sorry that your original sponsor didn’t follow through - it is a very serious undertaking, to be a sponsor, but obviously something has happened to sidetrack her, or else she has forgotten that she promised to be your sponsor.

no…she turned up all this time, but the problem is that I told her the wrong day and it’s supposed to be today and now I can’t contact her because her phone kept going on answering machine…so it’s kindof a mistake on my part for telling her the wrong date:(

but I contacted one of my RCIA teachers already…God have mercy on me…maybe I’m just not being good enough:(

Stop beating yourself up; you’re fine. 🙂 My sponsor and my husband’s sponsor are very hit-and-miss when it comes to them showing up for things because they’re very busy, and frankly, I think they forget a lot of stuff. If they miss something, I know someone else will step up for us. It’s in God’s hands, so try not to worry so much. 🙂

happens almost every year, for some one of a dozen reasons a sponsor or godparent does not make it or can’t serve, so one of the catechists steps in as proxy, or serves as actual sponsor if necessary. good reminder though to choose sponsors who do want to commit to the responsibility and actually be there for the rites and sacraments.

Everyone makes mistakes. Don’t worry too much. Someone there will be very pleased to stand in for your sponser. You’re not in St. Louis, are you? I’d come over, if you were! You have an additional family now in your parish.

Tonight? Not next week. We do this on Holy Saturday. My nephew is being confirmed Sunday in the United Church of Christ. I’ve never been to a confirmation that wasn’t Catholic, and have no idea what to expect. I’ve been to their services when he got his God and Country Award, and for my sister’s wedding. It’s quite a nice service, but it’s not Mass.

That actually happened to me. My sponsor had broken his leg, so that was a valid excuse. A member of the RCIA team pinch-hitted for my sponsor, so it worked out.

To be honest, The is no Sacrament of Confirmation that is not Catholic. Outside the Catholic Church with the exception of the Orthodox and a few schmatic Catholic churches like the PNC there is no Sacrament of Confirmation.

I realize that Catholics don’t recognize what Protestants call confirmation as being the same thing we have. They very much believe it’s a confirmation of the person’s faith. I don’t know what PNC means.

This was United Church of Christ. My sister had left the church a long time ago, and this is her husband’s family’s church. She’s actually joined them now, which is probably making my mother and grandmother spin in their graves.

It was a very nice ceremony, although really long. We sang “They’ll Know We Are Christians by Our Love”, and “Joyful Joyful”. A couple kids sang Amazing Grace, my nephew read a beautiful paper he wrote on faith. There was a long sermon from the youth minister which was a little cute for my tastes. A small group of violins, a cello and my nephew on bass played Mio Bambino Cara. The violins were squeaky, but my nephew sounded pretty good. He plays several stringed instruments and is quite talented that way. Each kid went to the front of the church with their families – and yes, I went up with them – and one of the two ministers put his hand on the kid’s head and said something. I don’t remember what it was, except the thing they said for boys was different than the thing they said for girls. The kid went up to the podium and recited a verse. My nephew did Love is Patient, Love is Kind…my favorite too. They gave each kid a loaf of bread, but I didn’t hear an explanation for it. Then there was a receiving line and everyone congratulated the kids. I told the girl who sang Amazing Grace she did a good job.
