What happens if one doesnt regret the sin itself but they regret offending God?

A hypothetical question popped into my head a few days ago,

what if one sinned(mortally) and regretted offending God but the not for the action? would hey be forgiven?
 
Very interesting question. I was wondering myself about the idea that I do not look upon the use of ABC as a sin, but I understand that some Catholics do. Now, I’m 62, so this ABC question doesn’t fit my life, but at thirty, it would have. Certainly is thought provoking.:rolleyes:

Yes. I think there has to be firm resolve to not do it again.

I think this is quite normal really. We enjoy our sins, that’s why we do them. Sometimes it takes a while for us to realize we are hurting ourselves too.
 
Would you do it again if the same situation presented itself? If yes, then I was told not forgiven. I could be wrong but that was what I was taught:blush:

I think it would be something to explore with one’s confessor.

If you committed an action that you considered perfectly legitimate, why would you think you offended God? Or, the other way around, if you think your action offended God, how could you consider it legitimate? Those two ideas don’t mesh in my mind.

Lets say bob did a “mortal sin” and he didnt believe it was mortal, but rather believes venial(after hearing it is “mortal”)
Bob regrets offending God in any case of sin

Then Bob should confess his sin and resolve not to repeat it. Ideally one wants to root out sins, whether venial or mortal, and avoid them in the future. I mean, does anyone think about doing a certain thing, say “it’s only a venial sin,” and then go ahead and do it anyway?
