What happens if you feel sick after mass and you have to puke. Considering that you took communion is this a sin or disrespect for the holy communion?

Yes. If there are fragments of the Eucharist in the puke, you’d have to bury it.

There is no sin involved unless one intentionally vomits.

it is common sense therefore not to receive when one is feeling ill or queasy, but there is no sin if vomitting is not intentional. The Presence remains in the sacred species only so long as it is identifiable in physical properties as bread.

Curiously, I’ve wondered this myself. Anyone who has read “Angela’s Ashes” is familiar with the story of Frank eating too much candy after his first Communion and getting sick outside the house…and his grandmother’s horrified response. His telling of it makes it quite a humorous story, but it had me really curious about the proper protocol in this situation.

To follow up on what Puzzleannie wrote - if you let it dissolve in your mouth completely or chewed it completely, you would not be able to distinguish it as bread, thus you will not have to worry about what Constantine wrote.

Oddly enough, I’ve been wondering about this since Saturday. A cold has been going around and Saturday I contemplated all day whether or not I was getting it or not and if I was should I stay home. I felt otherwise fine. No sneezing or coughing at that point, just the general cold like feeling. No signs of being stomach sick for sure. Long story short, by the time I got home from mass, I made myself stomach sick from coughing

I was hoping that if I received at roughly about 45 to six and did not get home until half past six, that perhaps it was all digested. You’d have never been able to tell what was what.

I am hoping very much that my medication takes this cold out on it’s toosh before this weekend and most certainly before next weekend.

This saves me one thing to confess to Fr. at tomorrows adult penitential service.

Think about the conditions for sin. I don’t see how you could consent to throw up.

What would you have confessed? Coughing so much you vomited? What makes you think that is a mortal sin?

Oh I haven’t the slightest fancy. I remembered reading something in passing about someone becoming ill after having received and what one should do or is required to do should that happen. Not thinking I’d actually have a problem with it, I did not look much further than there.

My lack of education of course plays a big role. After having returned to the church under three months ago, I find my confessions with FR. are usually “Well, I am not entirely sure but …” Then he takes the time to explain whatever it is I may have said.

But yes, that is basically what I would have told him. As for the what made me think it was, was my uncertainty in the matter.

Scrupulous? Yep I have that tendency on times but have gotten a lot better in the recent weeks. Now if only this nastiness of a cold gets a lot better too before next weekend.

(I don’t mind coming off a little silly when I am trying to really learn about something, which I earnestly am with my faith. I do not intentionally try to come off as dense though. I do apologize if any aggravation was caused.)

The Blessed Sacrament remains intact for around 15 minutes. If you can’t wait that long, then you can’t wait that long. I really believe that non-intentional situations like this are covered under the phrase “Jesus knew what He was getting into.”

It’s only a sin if you intentionally vomit after taking the Sacrament. If you are feeling ill and vomit, that’s not your fault or a sin.
