Only one guy has been elected more than once, and he was elected THREE times. The Papacy of Theophylactus of Tusculum as Pope Benedict-9 was inflicted upon the Church on three occasions. The Catholic Encyclopedia describes him as “a disgrace to the Chair of Peter.” He was the first openly homosexual Pope (complete with gay orgies in the Lateran palace), and the only Pope known to have sold the Papacy. What a gem.

And we got him, not once, not twice, but three times. I think God may have been doing a bit of joking himself

I recall reading about how at the time of the last Pope the Vatican will be over run and destroyed…I think it was a prophesy of Saint Malachy…then again I’m not sure if many now think his prophesies were not written by him at all…just by looking at what is happening in Europe at the present time gives pause to wonder if it may not be true after all.

That’s true but He has to be elected POPE before he can be the Bishop of Rome. Not the other way around. He is installed in the office of Bishop after he is elected Pope. He can’t be installed before the Election !! God Bless, Memaw

FTR, there can be (and ARE) auxiliary bishops of Rome, who are not elected, nor do they function as auxiliary popes, but: There they are.

The prophesy was about our last Pope? Obviously, it’s not true.

The prophesy they’re referring to is about what will happen during the reign of the last Pope of all, meaning the one who will hold that office before the Antichrist reigns, at the end of the world. The prophecies are much debated as to their authenticity. Many believe the whole thing is a complete forgery, created about 500 years after St. Malachy died.
