Devastated

Last year I discovered my husband’s porn. We always attended mass on Sundays, holy days, and often during the week. We didn’t contracept. We homeschool our children. We prayed together and were active in our church, pro life, and chastity groups. My husband was raised in a strict catholic family and his faith was always important to him as long as I had known him. We had been having problems for a few years, and I had suspected something was up. But that didn’t lessen my shock and horror at my discovery.
I am not posting to simply tell this story. I want everyone to know that there is help for you. I was devastated by his actions! I have never experienced such pain. I had difficulty finding any real help on the internet. He listened to a few talks on purity and I found a few websites to validate my emotions. But nothing to help us navigate thru healing. I searched thru this forum, and again, nothing that offered any real help. We have a large family, But not a large bank account. There are a few catholic counselors that might have been helpful, But we couldn’t afford them. What I did finally find was a 2 part seminar from a protestant pastor named Brad Hambrick, “False love” for the betrayer and “True Betrayal” for the betrayed. These can be easily found on the internet by googling his name and the title. They are free ! This program started our process. Had we not found it, I’m not sure we would be together today and I know that I would not be on a journey to healing. On December 2, God led me to another website, redemptiveliving.com . This website is run by a Christian couple who are 12 years into their journey. They have lots of information and help to offer. They also have several videos on YouTube that can be watched for free. Just search for jason or Shelley Martinkus. They both have books available thru the website or Amazon. I am currently working thru Shelley’s book with a support group. My husband swears by Jason’s book, “Worthy of Her Trust.”
I am not putting this information out here for any other reason except to help others find the resources that I don’t think I could have gone without. Don’t get me wrong, it is a struggle to make it thru some days. I have good and bad. And the bad can be very bad! But my husband is there to help with the pain he has caused in a way that I never would have thought he could be there for me. I will warn you that Jason’s story is quite a bit more extensive than my husband’s and may be shocking to you. He does not hide from his past. But he and Shelly now work to help other couples navigate thru the process of healing. We were leery at first, because they are not catholic, but this has not been an issue.
We are now 6 months in, and it is still very difficult. But I know today that my husband’s sin does not define him, and it does not automatically doom our marriage. We are on a journey. I felt it was important to make others aware that help is out there and attainable. If you are on this journey, I am so sorry for your pain. Please know that I pray for all affected by this scourge every day. So I am praying for you! You are not alone!
