I am a recent convert to the faith. The only religion my husband knows is Catholicism but he doesn’t practice and isn’t baptized or confirmed. Before I became Catholic he helped talk me into becoming Catholic. Now that I am practicing, it is a problem for him. We have four kids and we were married in the Church. I am doing what I vowed to do.

However, just this day of obligation, I asked that we make different arrangements for using the car (we only have one) so I can take the kids to church while he is at work. He basically told me that I need to choose between him or God! No way am I not going to stop practicing! But I really don’t know how to handle it.

For your husband to respond to a request to use the car while he is at work with a demand that you “choose between him or God” is just so out of proportion to the circumstances and bizarre that it sounds to me that there are other issues going on between you. I recommend that you contact the Pastoral Solutions Institute, a Catholic counseling apostolate, for assistance and/or a referral to a Catholic counselor in your area.
