What if Catholic parents won't baptize their child?

Hello. Can someone help me know what do make of a situation in my parish? I am a RCIA teacher. A young couple who passed through RCIA, became Catholic, married and now have a baby boy, has decided not to give their child the gift of baptism, but instead want to wait for the child, as a young person or adult, to make that decision on their own. Does this place the parents in sin (mortal or venial), and what is the state of the baby’s soul in the view of the Church. Thank you.
