What if I didn't realise I was in mortal sin?

I sometimes wonder, I know that I must have full knowledge but what if I do have full knowledge about a certain sin but over time I been incredulous to it and have convinced myself into thinking it is venial but all the time I am perishing and don’t realise.

Is this even possible?

If it is what on earth would you do about it?

Just because you have convinced yourself its not a mortal sin doesn’t make it so. Lying you yourself doesn’t justify the sin.

That’s not what he/she is saying. He/she is asking what the effect would be if they were sincerely confused about the gravity of a sin, not lying to themselves.

Anyway, OP, these are questions for a priest, but I do detect a whiff of scrupulosity here. Just make good, regular confessions and trust God’s mercy without trying to lawyer out all the details.

I think a good solution might be to resolve to not commit any sin at all, including venial sin. If we commit deliberate venial sins that is very serious and can actually become mortal if we have a certain contempt for God in this (the contempt or lack of general repentance can be a sin against love for God). Just fight all the sin in your life, but without much worrying, try to trust God

You aren’t the first to say that on here lately, I do feel I may be heading in that direction.

I think it is a combination of not understanding and being a worrier in general.

E.g. When I read the catechism I feel the same as a doctor telling me what is wrong with me as if I were educated to his level instead of using laymen’s terms. I even read a simplified Catechism online and I needed it dumbed down more.

I’ve been in that delemma, it’s not being scrupulous but being in tune .Very good to talk with your priest.When I turn up for the occasional weekday mass my priest reads my mind and nods towards the confessional and I nod back

Then it is not a mortal sin.

Yes, it is very likely, remembering that sins in our lives would hurt our souls. The effect of sins also can inhibit our spiritual growth and likely to lead us spiralling down the unholy life of godlessness.

I could say what I think about this, but it would be far better to say simply go to confession, and all worries and doubts would be irrelevant when any sins are wiped away.
I think he also should ask the priest during confession if his sin is a moral sin.
It is very important for a person to be very careful about his eternal salvation.
