What if I missed the 1st RCIA session?

Hi everyone,

I have been considering Catholicism for a good few months now and finally want to join the church.

The RCIA was scheduled to start on September the 17th but due to the priest being ill was postponed until further notice. I’m not 100% sure but I have a feeling it may have been tonight and I missed it.

Do I have to wait until next year if this is the case?

No. Missing one session is not going to mean you have to wait a year. Simply call the priest or RCIA coordinator, or go to the next class.
 
No, you are always welcome to the classes. Just call the teacher and let them know. No big deal:)

Good luck with RCIA. I missed the first one or two classes and was allowed to join the class. I am still deciding whether I want to convert or not.
 
I missed the first class too and it wasn’t a big deal. In fact they were so happy more people were joining. Some even missed the first two weeks. They did say however if you miss three classes during the entire process you will not be able to be confirmed at Easter. Besides the first five weeks or so is the Inquiry stage. 😉
 
Well typically you can’t join after the Rite of Acceptance on the First Sunday of Advent

Right now it’s still the “Inquiry” stage.

My RCIA team meets up personally with students who miss a class. My husband works in the oilfield so will miss half of the classes due to work. He has an RCIA team member he meets up with and goes over the classes one on one. I’m kind of jealous of that.

In short, they’ll be more understanding than you think.
 
Hi everyone, thank God I didn’t miss the 1st session - is starts a week on Tuesday so I have it marked in my diary - can’t wait! 🙂
