What if I say no to God's will?

I have been struggling with discerning my vocation (religious life or marriage) for over ten years. I read this on another forum and wondered to what extent it is true:

Are we obliged to follow the vocation which God gives us?
A. Yes; if we should wilfully neglect to follow our vocation we would be in danger of losing our souls.

I thought God invites us to a vocation, but respects our choices and will give us the graces to walk with Him in any vocation.

Hi,

The first indication that God is calling us to a particular vocation is that it strongly appeals to us. If marriage appeals to you more, then God is probably calling you to marriage.
