I don’t think people are purposely seeking division for division’s sake, they are just looking for a more conservative/traditional spirituality. When I go to confession, I want the priest to tell me the truth about my sins and push me to stretch further, to challenge me to be a better Catholic, not just stop at avoiding mortal sins. When I go to the church picnic, I want to be around people who are modestly dressed. If I go to a women’s group, I want to be around people who are devout, from whom I can draw inspiration to become more devout myself. If I could find all these things in a mainstream parish that offers both forms of the Mass, that would be great. No “division” necessary. But the reality is, while I’m sure there are exceptions, most mainstream parishes where I live are not like that. So while I don’t go looking for division, it happens naturally when likeminded people flock together. It’s really about finding an environment where I can best grow spiritually, that’s all. It’s not about church politics.
Now, celebrating Mass at someone’s house in order to be independent- I don’t know what that’s about. Sounds wrong to me, and why is the pastor allowing this? Referring to the group as “Latin Mass community” online? I don’t see anything wrong with that. That’s what Latin Mass goers usually call themselves. I see what you are saying about division, and I agree it’s there. But not because people want to be separated, it’s because they can’t find what they seek at most OF parishes.
