What if the priest forgets to give a penance to perform following confession?

I recently attended confession and was discussing with the priest a very complex issue I regularly struggle with. He told me to set aside time each day to pray for the situation, then spoke the words of absolution, but gave no other penance. Now what do I do? Should I say a decade of the rosary - what this priest usually gives for confession? Will it count? The priest is now out of town for the summer months and I cannot contact him. Please advise!

Dear Mag,

The validity of the sacrament of Penence is not affected by whether the penance is performed or not. Just pray the decade and put it put of your mind.
