What if you can't remember all mortal sins you've committed before going to confession?

I’m going to confession this morning and I have a generally strong list of the sins I’ve committed but if I lack memory of some I have committed, will this invalidate the confession and thereby keeping me in mortal sin?

God bless you my friends!

Forgetting through no fault of our own does not invalidate the sacrament. Just go to Confession; when you remember things later, bring it up at your next confession as something you honestly forgot. And you don’t have to rush back the moment you remember, just bring it up the next time you go to Confession, again as something you forgot to mention.

If you have truly forgotten… there is that part of the final prayer that says “for these and all the sins of my past life, I am truly sorry and ask forgiveness…”

I think they would be forgiven. Then if you ever remember them at a later date, it’s good to go ahead and confess them. That’s what our priest told us.

I’ve actually been trying to go to Confession for two weeks but last week there was a wedding and a funeral on the Saturday, today there was no priest at all. It’s kind of frustrating, having to wait another week. 😦

Try another parish. Have a look online and see when Confession is offered in the parishes within travelling distance from your home.
