What is a sin of omission?

I’ve seen a few threads that question whether something is a sin of omission or not. What is a sin of omission? We aren’t called on to correct all those around us who sin are we? Because it seems like that’s what a lot of the questions regarding omission are. I’ve got my hands full dealing with my sins without wondering if I am sinning by not correcting someone else . . . . .but perhaps that is a sin of omission?

A sin of omission is failing to do some act of good that we are required to do.

Some will ask, there are millions of things that I don’t do, going on mission trips, spending time with the lonely, working with those rejected by society… the list could be endless.

I think it is only sinful if God asks you to do something and you don’t do it, perhaps God is asking you to visit someone who is elderly and lonley, I would say not doing this is a sin of omission. We are human and we can’t do everything, God gives certian people in the Church certian jobs, If God doesn’t ask you to do anything about landmine victims in Bosnia and you don’t do it then it’s not sinful. He may ask someone else to do that.
