If you have to ask if it is acceptable, best bet is that it is not …and then NOT.

Hi i am having troubles with understanding what line exists as a believer in the Catholic Faith sexually when in comes to dating. What guidlines are there for what is exceptable and what not at all?

The main problem is in dating and relationships with other people who may not be catholic or not follow these practices. The the want more than just kissing…What does the catholic church say beyond this? I understand sex before marraige is obviously frowned upon but are there any other options besides going from one relationship to the next, hoping one girl has the sames beliefs as myself?
Well, I’d suggest to check out what moral teaching there is on causing scandal…and what the occasion and near occasion of sin are. From my own search on the topics of modesty and chastity, I’ve found very little that is taught directly above the level of opinion. Also, while the information is objective on how to judge sin, the occasion and near occasion of sin is probably different for each person, so what would be an occasion of sin for a man who has never been married may not be an occassion of sin for a widower.

You might try reading the Catechism of the Catholic Church on the sixth commandment (bearing in mind that some of what is written is vague and contradictory to itself and common use of words).

Pretty much everything is exceptable.

Every thing is acceptable
?
Sexuality is reserved for marriage. We are called to live chaste lives. Chastity essentially involves giving sexuality the respect and place it deserves. It does not end with marriage. It is fully possible (and to be totally honest extremely more common than not) to disrespect married sexuality.

I am not going to draw a line in the sand and say you can steel or sneak x amount of premarital sexuality before you cross it. IMHO if you do something to intentionally receive sexual gratification from an action it could very well be too far. (I do not hold hands and peck on the cheek to receive gratification - but I do enjoy the gratification I get from passionately kissing my wife.

fwiw chastity is not always absence and celibacy - at imho there are times that celibacy and absence could be very inappropriate and not chaste.

Hi all,

I am a reporter for Religion News Service and I’m working on a story about Catholic Forum, specifically the Ask an Apologist feature. With their permission, I am posting here to ask people to contact me to talk about what they like about AAA.

If you have thoughts on that matter, please feel free to contact me at

best,

P.S. Sorry if I interrupted the flow of the discussion.

Any priest worth a dime will tell you to live as brother and sister. No kissing or any such stuff. Why do that anyway since it will only create desires that should not be followed until marriage and procreation. And if we love God above all else then it will not matter what other people believe.
