What is the definition of faith? Do Scriptures say it’s a blind belief in things unproven? Is it mere belief? What do the Scriptures tell us about the true definition of faith?

Faith is blind but not ignorant.

“Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not seen.”-- Hebrews 11:1

If faith itself is the “evidence” of things not seen, then our belief is what ‘proves’ it.
And the realization of what is hoped for-- that we are redeemed by Jesus Christ.

This is a heavy question that has been analyzed much. I think the element of hope is so much a part of it that they can’t be separated. And “the greatest of these is love”-- I see that as being so intertwined, that you can’t have one without the other two.

Faith is when a person is able to believe that what God has revealed is true – Not because its intrinsic truth is seen with the rational light of reason, but because of the authority of God who reveals it, of God who can neither deceive nor be deceived. (from the Catholic dictionary)

So you believe in God without being able to provide physical evidence that He exists. You read the Bible and believe because it is the Word of God. The scriptures are the Word of God and tell us how to live our lives so we can have eternal life with God.

That is what people on this forum debate all the time. Unfortunately many people do not believe.

Very good posts! May I add that the human happiness to be derived from said Faith is beautiful!

Faith is also defined as Trust. To believe in God is to trust Him. This includes the belief that the word of God is something to be Trusted.
