What IS god doing?

A devout Catholic was asked by a friend of mine when she said that God was with the starving children in Africa, and he was with the children dying of Aids, you get the picture… The friend simply replied… “doing what?!!”
can anyone help with this as the devout catholic had no answer!:confused:

OK I’ll be brave 😉 The divine will is what you’re asking about. The divine will is experienced as His signified will and His good pleasure. You’re having trouble with the later.

The only reason I feel brave enough to answer you is because I just read about this in a book called Holy Abandonment. You might look it up for future reference.

“Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word.”

Maybe your putting God as a magic potion that one pours on a wound and then it is all cleared up…

God is within, he is both within us and just beyond our consciousness…

I would say that the people who devote their lives to trying to care for suffering people are leaving their hearts open to God…as mother Teresa would say : " I am but a pencil in the hands of God"…

We all serve, it just depends on who.
 
He is suffering with them. “The Lord hears the cry of the poor.” “Whatsoever you do to the least of my people, that you do unto me.”

He is also reaching out to them through the work of human hands inspired by His love. “If you love me, you will do what I say…”

And most importantly, He is preparing a place for them with Him. “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God.”

God gave this world to us to steward. We are our brother’s keeper. While God may not intervene in every matter, it does not follow that he is not moved by the plight of the suffering; that his heart does not ache for them. God has all eternity to amend their unjust circumstances and to punish we who ignore them.
 
If your interested in the Catechism, numbers 309-314 address this issue. I especially like 314
We firmly believe that God is master of the world and of its history. But the ways of his providence are often unknown to us. Only at the end, when our partial knowledge ceases, when we see God “face to face”, will we fully know the ways by which - even through the dramas of evil and sin - God has guided his creation to that definitive sabbath rest for which he created heaven and earth.
 
There are starving and diseased people all over the world, not just Africa, and also not just children. But you know that. I feel like you ask this question in hope that no one will have an answer to satisfy you. Life is full of pain and suffering. Each person has a different form and tolerance level of both. Luckily enough, I was born into a privileged American family. I didn’t have to suffer through starvation, but I did have to suffer through the divorce of my parents and tearing apart of my family. I often asked myself, "Where is God? “Why would He let this happen?” But God isn’t an object that I can use at my disposal. My sufferings led me back to God. God made me closer to Him though my sufferings. Now, starvation is a completely different case, obviously. But to think God will drop food and water and shelter from the sky is a ridiculous view point of how God works. God works through people, among other things. There are countless missionaries that bring aid to these suffering people. We all can help, if not first hand, then by our donations. That is God working through us. God is always doing something, even if we don’t understand what or why. My question is, what are you doing for the starving children? And I don’t ask that to “bash” you, but would sincerely like to know. If you are doing something, great, God is working through you.

I was just reading an article about fights in Africa and starvation, the situation there is beyond doubts, any God to me would look like a careless one. As what I’m hearing from people, it seems like God’s main problem now is an anti gay marriage agenda and elections in the US.

No…God is not careless…he even lives inside you…he’s the cause of you wanting justice…I think you are seeing humanity(specifically American) as becoming careless and overly centered on the gay marriage agenda…in which you’d be correct…but God is much larger than what you are painting Him to be…

I wish you’re right (if a god is real).
 
I saw a card once. On the outside, it had someone asking the question, “Why doesn’t God do something?” Inside was the answer: “He did. He sent you.”

Terrible things are going on all over the world. This is not *because *of God but *despite *God. His will is that we all work together to, among other things, make sure everyone has enough food to eat.

Because there is enough food in the world for everyone ot have some. The problem is that people are blocking the food from getting to people who need it. Look into what Mugabe did in Zimbabwe–*destroyed *what was once an net exporter of food and the people are now starving. His sinful lust for power has destroyed the people whom he was supposed to *serve. *

And most of the stories about nations with starving people are the same… usually if a natural disaster causes starvation, charities are able to get in with aid and food, but when it is a problem caused by corrupt people, then the people starve.

But those charities which can get in need our help; don’t forget them!
 
God is doing a lot to help the starving people and sick people of this world. He has many missionaries and charities and such doing the work for Him.

It would be pointless to you to try to have faith in the Hindu gods when you think they are unreal.

You are saying that I should try to have faith, it isn’t about trying, it’s about what you think or believe to be true.
No matter how you try to believe in the Hindu gods, or the Greek gods, or the pagan gods, or the Muslim God, you can’t because you are not convinced that they are real.

No matter how I try to believe in the Christian god or other gods, I can’t because I’m not convinced that they are real.
