How do we draw our friends, family and strangers to the Catholic Faith? What is the best way?
How is it different to the evangelism of other Christian denominations?
What has worked for you? Or do you avoid it and put it in the “too hard basket”?
I am relatively new to returning to Catholicism so haven’t really ventured down this path too far.
Guess I need to work more on myself first. I did try with one friend ( a Muslim) a few weeks ago but soon realised my approach was lacking subtlety and too superficial. I need a much more effective approach. I do feel concerned that some of my family have no interest in even going to Church.
Perhaps my witness then is more important than any attempts at evangelising.

Here’s a video that includes Bishop Barron, one of our best evangelists.

I think we need to be subtle. Like if someone asks how we are, we could say, blessed.

Bishop Barron says:
“The best theologians are the saints. The best evangelisers are the saints.”

Excellent. Thanks for passing this on. The saints are like my rock stars. 🙂

I vote that we love them into the church. Care for them as Jesus would. My mother always say, “You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.”

I meet many elderly in my work. I sometimes find myself at elderly assisted care facilities (convalescent homes). Many residents are with out faith or drifted away from it. I’m really not very good at evangelizing as we know it. I keep procrastinating on this, but toss around the idea in my head to ask for a collection of Catholic books from my parish. I once gave a protestant Christian, a Catholic book on the purpose of suffering. She absolutely loved it. In fact, it circulated around the home for some time. Had no idea this would happen. I need to get motivated to gather some books and bring them to the facility.

Thanks for your post. You got my wheels turning again.

I think there are many different ways to evangelize and there is no “best” way. Different people also respond differently.
My own personal approach is that I try to be a good Christian myself (difficult of course) as best as I can and I hope to show others what a good person is like. Hopefully if they later find out that I’m a Catholic then they will put the two together.

I have tried but they absolutely dont agree on confession and eucharist

We certainly have a responsibility to show good behaviour, as ambassadors for Catholicism.

Better to avoid apologetics would be my approach. Those kinds of people have made their mind up already anyway. Don’t waste your energy on them.
