I don’t believe in Heaven or Hell. What would it be like?

Someone once told me that in heaven all your problems and ailments go away.

What I don’t understand is this: If everything that is wrong with you gets fixed, would you be the same person?

If someone goes through life, then in their 70s they get Alzheimer’s, then they live another 10 years with the disease, and keep degrading. What would they be like in heaven?

A five year old boy meets Grandpa when he is 75, Grandpa is quiet and funny cause he forgets things, the boy doesn’t know the racist man he once was. In 100 years would that Boy recognize Grandpa in Heaven?

Suppose Alzheimer’s caused the old religious Grandpa to forget about God and turn to Satan, would he then go to Hell?

If you go through life, the ailments and environment changes who you are. If when you get to heaven that goes away, doesn’t a part of you go away? If you lost your leg and turned to piano and then got really good at it because your loss motivated you to become great, are you in part thankful for your loss of limb because it gives you another sense of drive in your mortality.

Are there any one legged men in heaven?

At death, the soul – which is pure spirit --separates from the body. A spirit has no parts. It does not occupy space. Therefore, there are no one-legged men in heaven.

A man afflicted with alzheimer’s is not responsible for his actions. At death, he would be judged according the state of his soul before he became afflicted.

Our bodies are “houses” which are required for life on earth. Our bodies are subject to blindness, disease, and decay. We move out of the “house” and leave it behind at death. The infirmities of the body do not affect the integrity of the soul.

The very essence of the life in heaven is called the “Beatific Vision” – which means the seeing that causes bliss. Our “knowing” faculty, the intellect, and our “loving” faculty, the will, will be in direct contact with God. We will have supernatural life, sanctifying grace, God’s own Divine Life, which will enable us to “see” God face to face for all eternity. Eternity does not mean year after year, eon after eon – it means no time at all. Time is the measure of change. Heaven and God are outside time – changeless – in the eternal NOW. Heaven is bliss.

So if you’re sick do you have a dormant soul? The little boy in my little story knew an empty shell of a grandpa?

The man got Alzheimer’s at 70, at 45 he lost his leg. What if the loss of limb caused him to become really religious and accept Jesus, Mary, God, faith? It was that moment that defined a part of him. If the ailment is removed in death, does God judge that person only half way through his/her life?

So the soul has no sense of body? A body builder then should not waste their life on the sport, and neither should any athlete. In fact, I shouldn’t exercise at all because the body doesn’t mean anything in the afterlife.

I’m going to go get fat, I’m sick of wasting my life on diet/exercise.

I guess I’m right then. Everyone agrees.

Heaven I feel will be different for everyone! I always dream of it being a place where I sit down with Christ and He talks to a group of us and tells us stories and I always try to sit next to Our Lord to hold his hand and stay real close. Other times it’s just me and Christ walking and nothing is being said yet you all that you really feel is the infinate love that He has for us regardless of your colour and creed. It’s a nice feeling and a nice dream and it gives me hope and courage when I’m having down times, and I always then think of this place Heaven and that God has seen something in me and I will just have to try again because the Lord has faith in me and He loves me.

I asked this question before and did not get a good answer. If at the end of time our bodies are resurrected and restored to their perfect state for our heavenly existence in eternity, what will happen to this extra 50 pounds?

Zootjeff,

Your profile says you are not religious at all - you left it blank.

I suppose you question of what are heaven and hell like is a good first start.

Actually no man knows what heaven will look like , but we do know some of the qualities of heaven. We know some of the qualities of hell. We know enough thaaaat we DO want to go to heaven and we DO NOT want to go to hell.

Eye has not seen and ear has not heard the wonders that await those entering the kingdom of God.

Great goodness can arise even in times when one is being tested severely. St. Paul came to accept and glorify Jesus after he was blinded by a very bright light from heaven, though his sight was later restored. It was this moment which defined his faith forever, which won for him salvation.

The important point here, is that the man has come to accept Christ as his Lord, and my friend, that is all that matters.

I always kind of liked the Heaven from BILL AND TED’S BOGUS JOURNEY, with all the greatest thinkers of history getting together to play charades.
