What is the difference between Kyriale Simplex and the ordinary Kyriale Romanum? Is it just a collection of the simpler parts of the ordinary kyriale, like putting together Kyrie XVI with Gloria XV and Sanctus XVIII and Agnus Dei XVIII into “Missa Simplex”? Or does it also contain other, simplified melodies?

From this article:

“The Council’s recommendation of a collection of simpler melodies resulted in the Kyriale Simplex, an abridged Kyriale containing only five or six Mass settings and two or three Credos. A few simple settings from non-Roman Latin rites, such as the Ambrosian and Mozaribic Rites, were also included .”

BTW, anybody who seriously wants to understand the history of Catholic sacred music in the past century or so needs to read that entire “Buried Treasure” series.
