What is my moral obligation to this child born out of wedlock

I have recently learned that I had fathered a child out of wedlock. My wife says that I am morally obligated to completely cut off communication with the mother and child. I do not believe that I am capable of obeying such a directive. What would catholic moral teaching advise?

Dear friend,

You are indeed responsible for that child. You are its’ father. Your wife is living in denial. You need to make contact and learn to what extent you can act as the father that you are. You are in our prayers.
