What is Neccesary?

I was talking with my aunt and she thinks that a lot of things are “Non-essential” or Neccesary for Salvation (Method of Confession {throught a priest or no}, the Trinity, Day of worship {Sunday or Saterday}, Baptism, ect). Does anyone know of any books or Tracts or something on this kind of stuff and what to make of it? Thanks and God bless.

Based on many other threads in this forum, we need a clear and concise definition of “Salvation”. If not, we will use the the same term with different meanings and confuse and anger each other.

If it’s not essential, why did Jesus reveal it?

here’s the way I look at it…

If your Catholic: (and in theory this really applies to everyone, but thats another debate for another day) If the church says do it… do it. Who am I to question the intitution founded by God himself.

If your protestant: Still pretty simple… If the Bible says do it… Do it. THe trend to say that you can ignore when christ says partake in communion, ignore baptism, dont DO anything just repent and you are saved… why would you preach that. If the bible says do it… do it…

If its mentioned as soemthign to do… its a necessity…

And the eyes, legs, tongue and so on are non-essential organs.
A friend of mine has no arms and manages surprisingly well.

The only thing that is declared as essential in scripture is baptism, and even there the church recongises a “baptism of desire”. However the other sacraments, Masses, doctrines and so forth are there for a purpose, even it is possible to get to heaven without them.
