What is our obligation on "non-Lent" Fridays?

Isn’t some form of penance on Fridays required? Even if one does not abstain from meat, isn’t there an obligation to “fast” or “abstain” from something? (i.e. TV, desserts, internet). I’ve received many conflicting answers on this!
