I see the term alot, but I’ve yet to find a definition for what ‘pastoral liturgy’ is. Is it different than just plain liturgy? Anyone know?

Usually it is synonymous with ‘disobedient liturgy.’ It’s just a term dissenters came up with because they felt the official rites of the Church were deficient and thus the ‘pastoral’ thing to do (for the good of the congregation) was to sin and make up their own versions.

It’s a term to descibe the hubris of certain priests acted out in the hijacking of the Mass to satisfy their own egos. They are blind to their own arrogance and frequently try to attack anyone who complains in an venomous exercise of clericalism and sheer exercise of power that would have made Cardinal O’Connell blush.

In my experience, the term “pastoral” is used in this sense to mean “so ‘nice’ and non-offensive as to say nothing.” A pastoral liturgy, therefore, will be so sensitive and gentle toward every religiosociopsychosexualpervertemotional group perceived to be present in the “assembly” that it is completely disconnected from both the Roman Missal and reality at large. How’s that for homemade psychobabble?

Per my recent experience and conversation with a priest, it means asking people to encircle the altar during the consecration and holding their hands and swaying during a horrid rendition of the Our Father. Watch out for those chalices as you lean over the altar to shake your brother in Christ’s hand!!!
