What is spirituality? Does it differ from religion?

Nowadays is spirituality defined as a consideration of personal meaning in art, nature, ideas, higher powers, religion and/or God?

Many definitions and views exist, reminding one of the conversation between Alice and Humpty Dumpty.

When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”

To consider spirituality in its fullness is huge, even the study of Christian Spirituality is vast, and opinions differ.

Does ‘Chrisitan spiritualiy’ trace its path back to the early days of the Church, using terms like mystical or ascetical theology, or is the topic, not only the term, more modern going back to the 1960s and Vat II?

Is the simplest definition of '‘spirituality’ “a personal search for meaning?”

Please let me know your views, particularly how spirituality can get one closer to God.
