What is the actual Church teaching on ghosts & Paranormal activity?

Is it against the Catholic Church to believe in ghosts or paranormal activity? I don’t believe ghosts are human spirits as you either go to Heaven, by way of Purgatory most likey, or Hell. However, I do believe that unexplained sightings and happenings do occur that can’t be ignored. What is the actual Church teaching on this subject?
