There is an idea that some humans in the world are walking around with demons in them.

I suspect that this is not a Catholic view but an idea made popular by the media.

Is there any truth to this in regards to Catholic theology…

Paul Thigpen has written a handy little book called A Manual of Spiritual Warfare. Available in print, Kindle and Audible format. He discusses demonic oppression, infestation and possession and there are a number of Catholic prayers. Good stuff!

That’s the guy! TAN books also has a manual on the seven deadly sins. I believe he’s an editor for TAN. They’re solid, real orthodox
Thanks for posting this! He’s a FB friend.

I acknowledge that demons exists, i’m just not sure how it all works. I have been lead to believe that demonic possession is rare and quite horrific, whereas there is other ideas suggesting that demons actually live in humans or is attached to them in some way in their day to day lives and you might not even know. In fact this might be true for a large number of people and you wouldn’t know.

Possession is rare, yes. I believe oppression us much more common.

The post before this mentioned the different levels of demonic influence. I think that’s quite true.

Depends on which priest you talk to, basically it is the action of the Evil One, Satan. He usually just tempt us to sin but sometimes that involvement can be deeper depending on the circumstances - so he can oppress and even possess us.

Perhaps what you said is a mild possession.

This needs deliverance if it disturbs you and the best person for you to discuss this is with your priest.

There are three experts I trust on this subject:

Unless an individual belongs to The International Association of Exorcists BEWARE! There are many frauds who’re confusing people and making situations worse.

Not bad. You wrote that quite well.
People are getting possessed - left and right - by their own selves.
I’m convinced of that. Especially since 2000 - like quicksand -
Exorcists have their hands full…that’s for sure.
So try to be careful.
I don’t even watch horror movies - for fear of opening a portal !

Correct. Possession refers to a state where a demon has completely taken over a human’s consciousness. This is relatively rare, though perhaps not as rare as most think.

The idea that, apart from full possession, one or more demons can be “attached” to a human without the human knowing it, and affecting their day to day lives, is also correct. This is, in fact, very common. Most people have minor demons. Some have strong demons.

The advice to talk to a priest is good. But make sure it’s a priest who takes this stuff seriously. Not all do.

In any case, total reliance on Christ will ultimately drive out any demon, no matter how powerful, so if you can’t find external help, that’s the way to go.

Generally, when mainstream Protestant clergy encounter actual possession, they call in the RC as experts.

As for the Catholic view on demons? We’'re against them . . .🤣

No question in my mind, folks–Coach Satan and his team are having one of their best seasons ever. Their crowd is huge, loud and nasty, and Team Hell’s gotta feel like the momentum has completely shifted their way as they prepare for the 4th quarter of history. Unfortunately for them, the Christ team has the Cross option, the Sacrament blitz package and the Hail Mary. Their fans may have been silenced for a while, but the Christ team won’t let them down and will win it going away!

The funny thing is that I’ve heard that this is very true.

And I’ve heard that even some evangelicals will eventually call a priest too if/when they fail.

Demons are not the souls of the Nephilum.
(That theory comes from people into the Gnostic text of the Book of Enoch.)
When the church is referring to demons, they are “The Fallen Angels”, generally,
“Devil” is in reference to higher rank Demons.
Outside the church is another matter, some name spirits like Wraith, Black Shuck, Hatman, Shadow people,
etc etc. as though they are some different spirits or UFO aliens. I guess the question was answered in They are the “fallen angels”. Although, other may have an opinion as to this topic, however, the question was on the “Catholic church’s view”…
God bless,
