What is the church teaching on salvation for protestants?

Started RCIA several years ago and due to sickness had to drop out. Recently on Catholic Answers on fb saw a discussion on salvation for protestants. Guy says Protestants are not part of the Body of Christ. Is this the CC’s position. I thought CC acepted most Protestants as part of the Body of Christ, the Church. Was I wrong?
