What is the Church teaching on wearing a rosary as a necklace?

Some young folks think it’s “stylish” to wear the rosary. (Some celebrities are doing just that.)
i was taught that is not appropriate, but recently read the Church does not have any preference. i cannot believe that, of course.
What is the actual teaching of the Church, please?
