I don’t have a lot of understanding about the origins of yoga, just a hunch that it’s an Eastern Tradition that stems from those who practice hinduism/buddhism??? My mother is a cradle Catholic, but she’s very taken up with yoga, claiming its help in centering and contemplative prayer. My warning has always been that the focus of contemplative prayer should be Christ and I think that a lot of the things having to do w/ yoga practices point away from Christ towards other gods. Her quote was even ‘yoga helps the god in me recognize the god in you!’ Whoa! I hope she means that we’re all meant to see Christ in one another, but this isn’t the take I got from her. Just for my knowledge - b/c she doesn’t want to hear it - but what approach should a Catholic take towards yoga-type practices. Don’t the friars and monks and nuns practice contemplative prayer? Wouldn’t it be more Christo- centric to have a statue of one of these guys in contemplative/ meditation?
