What is the church's View of WWJD?

Our bishop says that WWJD infers that Jesus is not alive so he disapproves of it. We always were of the understanding that it means that we should make decisions and live our lives as Jesus wants us to.
 
I agree that we should live our lives in accord with what Jesus wants us to do. However, the term WWJD implies that we can know what Jesus would do in any given situation in any given place and time. But when Jesus walked the earth, his own followers often had no idea what Jesus would do. He always surprised them.
 
Your bishop is quibbling over the wording of a concise and effective slogan. What Would Jesus Do? To me, it does not deny his resurrection, his presence, or his lordship. Rather it reminds me to make good and holy choices in my everyday life by following the example and teachings of Jesus Christ.
 
I don’t understand how it “infers that Jesus is not alive.” First, asking what someone else you use as an example would do does not suggest anything about their state of life or death. I could ask myself, “What would Warren Buffett do when faced with this financial market?” and he’s still alive. Second, in the specific WWJD case, Jesus is obviously also “alive” in the sense of working through the person trying to emulate him.

I could see objecting to this slogan as being commercialized, but this bishop sure seems to be overthinking a slogan that works for many.
