I hope this is the right place to post this. What role does the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith play in the Church, and what is it’s authority in relation to the pope?
The CDF’s purpose is to defend the true Christian faith against false teachings. This is, obviously, one of the most important functions of Christ’s Church. The members of the CDF are appointed by the Pope.
