What is the difference between a votive mass and an ordinary daily mass?

I attended what was called a votive mass while I was on retreat a few weeks ago. I did not notice much of a difference between a regular daily mass and this votive mass. What really is the difference supposed to be?

Thanks! 😃

A votive Mass differs from other Masses only in the prayers and/or readings and not in structure. The votive Masses are focused on a particular thing, such as the Holy Ghost or the Holy Name. The prayers and readings would focus us on that person/thing (Holy Name or Holy Ghost,etc.). They are different from Ritual Masses, when another Sacrament is celebrated during Mass, and from Masses for various needs and occasions, when we focus on asking for something.

Thank you for taking the time to respond! It is most appreciated. 🙂

That does make sense, they said that it was a votive mass for the intention of the retreat (an all women retreat), and the readings focused on women in the Bible.

Thanks!
