What is the Holy Name of Jesus prayer? I don’t know what the prayer is and I would like to know, I heard many wonders happen when you repeatedly say this prayer.

Are you, perhaps, thinking of the Jesus Prayer: “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me (a sinner)”?

This is a prayer that’s traditional to the Eastern Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches (most popular in the Churches of the Byzantine tradition). It’s typically prayed on a 33, 50, or 100 knot prayer rope (a knotted “rosary”) and frequently used by monks in lieu of their participation in the Divine Office.

Yeah that’s the book I’m reading, I don’t really know the prayer and I want to learn!!

Well I heard that it also is in the eastern church but there’s one in the Catholic Church I believe, and I want to learn it

That’s one of the MANY prayers. The “Jesus Prayer” that Philip mentioned up thread is another one.

As I said there are a bunch.

It’s absolutely wonderful and I recommend it whole-heartedly to everyone.

@SlavesOfJesusandMary the is just saying the Name (single word) “Jesus” with reverence and love. Just His Name. Even repeat it slowly with love, 3 times.

Eastern Catholics are Catholics and fully members of the Catholic Church. The Jesus Prayer is as much part of Catholic tradition as the rosary.

That being said, I once had a Roman Catholic priest in Confession assign to me the penance of simply saying, “My Jesus, mercy.” In a way, that was one of the most powerful penances I’ve ever received, as it’s continued to influence me over twenty years later. I’ve always thought of that as a Roman/Western version of the Jesus Prayer.
