What is amazing about this question, Robert, is that the answer today is the same as it was 2000 years ago. Power, yes, and I will lump prestige with it, is the value of the “wisdom of the world” so to speak.
If we get into what our values should be, that is, the “wisdom from above”, Jesus calls for love, which would definitely include repenting from seeking power in a way that infringes on the freedom of others, forgiving all trespassers including our enemies (as well as those who have different opinions than we do
), and caring for those in need.
