What is the official church teaching on the "Internal Forum"?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the official church teaching on the “Internal Forum” is? I looked it up in my Catechism, but was unable to find it in the subject index.

I searched canon law and ccc and couldn’t find anything either. I did find this site americancatholic.org/Messenger/Sep1998/feature1.asp#F5
The site looks ok but again not sure if there is any “official teaching”. Ask a priest.

I’m not really understanding the internal forum bit. It doesn’t seem like the official teachings have anything to do with it but rather that it is something between a person and God. Not sure I am getting the point across! I would definately ask a priest.
