What is the opposite of gnosticism?
IMO, since Gnosticism concerns esoteric supernatural truths its opposite would be faith: knowledge involving authentic revealed supernatural truths. And dualism vs monism is one relevant distinction.

What is the opposite of gnosticism?
It entirely depends on what you are defining as Gnosticism? Do you mean the Ancient Christian form of Gnostic belief, or just the general idea of Gnosis, which is knowledge?

I don’t know how you interpret gnosticism, but check out ignosticism.

I agree with tomberg and ThinkingSapien, it depends on how you define gnosticism. With that said, I was told that Christian gnostics were people who believed they had secret teachings and ultimately knew more about Christ than the average Christian. The opposite of that would be agnostic. Agnostic: from Ancient Greek ἀ- (a-), meaning “without”, and γνῶσις (gnōsis), meaning “knowledge”. Generally speaking, agnostics believe if there is not enough proof for something then it should not be believed (more specifically proof in God).

What is the opposite of gnosticism?
So here’s the definition

Gnosticism-a prominent heretical movement of the 2nd-century Christian Church, partly of pre-Christian origin. Gnostic doctrine taught that the world was created and ruled by a lesser divinity, the demiurge, and that Christ was an emissary of the remote supreme divine being, esoteric knowledge (gnosis) of whom enabled the redemption of the human spirit.

If you mean the opposite heresy, since this heresy taught that Jesus was just divine and not man, the one that said Jesus was only a human, you’re talking about Arianism.

Arianism-an influential heresy denying the divinity of Christ, originating with the Alexandrian priest Arius ( circa 250– circa 336). Arianism maintained that the Son of God was created by the Father and was therefore neither coeternal with the Father, nor consubstantial.

I hope I was helpful!

(Note, both definitions were found by typing “Define: ________” into Google)

I also want to emphasize that these heresies were argued against a long time ago, and I think you can find the refuting arguments that protect against them if you look them up online.

mikeeh and warriorgent,
thanks and thanks, I have no other gift to make. Both of you answered the question that I neglected to clarify, “What is the opposite heresy of gnosticism?”. This is what I should have written.

thanks to both of you I now have my answer:
The opposite heresy of gnosticism is arianism-agnosticism.
