What is the origin of the word "Allelulia"?

I’d like to know the origin of the word “Allelulia”? I see reference to Halleluia from psalm 117, used for the Passover. What is the earliest reference to this word, and how did the early church use it, and what was it used for? this is going to be used in a CCD discovering-your-faith activity. In Christ.
