What is the original date of Christmas?

Hello:

Can someone please provide me with a link to a defense of why we celebrate Christmas on Dec. 25th? A fundamentalist I know is telling me that “…you know Jesus was not born in the Winter…”. I know there is a good defense for this, but I can’t seem to find it.
