Little Mary, just like Norma Shearer’s daughter in the movie “The Women”----love it. The Peshitta is the standard Syriac version of the Bible. Since Syriac is closely related to Aramaic, the everyday language of Jesus and the Holy Apostles, I believe it is often referred to to get closer to the original meaning of the Greek Text in the New Testament, of course it also offers insights in to the Hebrew text of the OT as well.🙂

headman13 - Thank you!

I was asked that question in an earlier post on another thread when I referenced chapter and verse. The questioner never came back to explain his/her question and I’ve been wondering if I was the victim of sarcasm. Oh well, live and learn.

Anyway, thanks so much for your reply!

BTW, my username, Little Mary, is the Gaelic translation of my given name. Never saw “The Women” - is it a good movie?

And there are 156 Psalms in the Peshitta Psalter.

In Christ,
Adam

Is Maureen Gaelic for “Little Mary”? Interesting. O yes, “The Women” is quite a cult classic, very stylized and arch. Lots of familiar faces: Norma Shearer of course, Joan Crawford, Marjorie Main, Paulette Goddard,Joan Fontaine, Rosalind Russell etc etc. ALL the characters are women, it’s based on a play by Claire Booth—even the ANImals are all female. It really is an interesting and amusing period piece from 1939.
