Item this week, the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh sold the St. Joseph Church, rectory and convent in Mt. Oliver, PA last week for $800,000 to the Potter’s House.

The Potter’s house will use the church for worship, the convent for religious education and the rectory for administrative offices.

The Potter’s House, the nondenominational church founded by Bishop T. D. Jakes.

Belief Statement:

The Bible, the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God without error in the original writings, and complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men, and the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life.
Code:
**God**--There is one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in three Manifestations: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

**Jesus Christ**--Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He died on the cross, the complete and final sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He is now our High Priest and Advocate.

**The Holy Spirit**--The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age, to convict men of sin, regenerate the believing sinner, indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service.

**Man**--Man was created in the image of God but fell into sin and is therefore lost, and only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

**Salvation**--The shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection provide the only ground for justification and salvation for all who believe, and only such as receive Jesus Christ by faith are born of the Holy Spirit and thus become children of God.

**The Return of Jesus Christ**--The personal, premillenial, and imminent return of our Lord Jesus Christ is our hope and has a vital bearing on the personal life and service of the believer.

**Future Events**--There will be a bodily resurrection of all the dead; of the believer to everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, and of the unbeliever to judgment and everlasting conscious punishment.

**The Church**--The true Church is composed of all such persons, who through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit and are united together in the body of Christ of which He is the head.

**Baptism and Communion**--Water baptism by immersion soon after accepting Christ as personal Savior, is a testimony of death to sin and resurrection to a new life and the Lord's Supper is a memorial service setting forth in sacred and symbolic manner the death of the Lord Jesus Christ; all true believers and only believers should share in it.

I believe that they also have a TV show carried on one of the Protestant networks. My husband and I were very disappointed to find out it wasn’t about pottery! :o

Please note that this Statement of Beliefs is modalistic. TW Jakes is widely criticised as being a Oneness Pentecostal, as someone whose views deny the traditional understanding of the Trinity as One God in three Persons. Modalists belief that God wears ‘masks’ or ‘plays roles’, or as this Statment suggests, ‘manifests Himself’ in various ways–sometimes as the Father, sometimes as the Son, sometimes as the Holy Ghost. Notice that Christ does not sit down on the ‘right hand of the Father’ but on the ‘right hand of the Majesty on High’ .

After reading this, the question that immediately sprang to mind is WHY would the Catholic Church however desperate its condition may be in that diocese, could justify selling its properties to a sect that teaches falsely? In a way the Church seems to be aiding and abetting heresy! Can someone shed some light for me as I find this very troubling. Thanks. -maranajewell

God–There is one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect, and **eternally existing in three Manifestations: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

** There’s the modalism, wow, they’re either wanting to stay away from the orthodox view of 3 divine persons, and used a poor choice of words to achieve that, or they are just outright modalists!!! Perhaps it’s a modified modalism??? Eternally existing in all 3 manifestations…:ehh:

I read the bulletin link at St. John Vianney’s, who knows, you’d probably like to be nice and think “well, they had some good reason, they needed the money, etc.” but it’s likely better explained by a lack of respect for the trouble that went into actually establishing a Catholic presence here in America.

And why would the “Potter’s House” people want to work with some Catholic community anyways?? Wouldn’t they want to shun any link to Catholic things?? Very likely there’s indifference on both sides, and when that happens, Catholics tend to get trampled.

My advice - You are in a big church, don’t sweat the small stuff, like sales of property under $1,000,000.

However, from a more positive viewpoint:

I remember… In my city, the Catholics sold their old church to a Lutheran denomination, and used the money to build a bigger, much nicer church. Looking back, if I were Catholic, I don’t think I’d be all upset about it. It’s not like they gave them the property/building or anything like that. The Lutheran congregation has since moved on and bought a local honkytonk and remodeled it for church. That’s a step down, if you ask me.

In the topic of this thread, it’s not like there’s hanky panky pandering and tossing aside of doctrinal beliefs. All that’s alluded to is the 2 groups trying to help their community address “neighborhood concerns.” The 2 parties also help to educate people on home ownership. Those are good things, no??
