Rev.21:16
*“The city was square, its length the same as its width. He measured the city with the rod and found it fifteen hundred miles in length and width and height.”

*How do you interpret this?

a. A cube of 1,500 miles.(1,500 miles each side)

b. A cube of 375 miles.(1,500 miles is the peremiter of the city.)

c. A cube of 500 miles (length + width + height)

I interpret it as “big”, without the presumption that the writer was trying to conduct a plat survey.

I am sure bible typology would be of assistance here. I am not well versed in this.

Howver, all I can imagine is that the New Jerusalem will be enormous beyond comprehension.

You already know my opinion Cat2, so I won’t ruffle your feathers, here. 🙂 Peace.

Heh heh:rolleyes:

It will be beautiful, & it will be perfect, & we will be so happy to be there, that we will entirely forget to take our measuring tapes with us.
God bless.

Right! When Jesus goes to prepare a place for us you can be sure He will do a job that: 1Cor2:9

*“What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him,”

*but did you vote in this poll?🙂

What’s bible typology?
I believe its interpreting the Old Testement in relation to the new, to see what it alludes to, so to speak.

in the context of the entire book of Revelation, and the rest of the bible, not as an isolated verse as if it were a problem in a high school math book.

Context is sometimes tricky for me, so could you give a discourse on what this city is or represents? An earlier poster referred to something called Bible typology. Would that be part of it?

The AV is very literal:

And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal

12,000 furlongs - 1500 miles

It sounds to me like a cube with a height of 500 miles, the length & breadth also of 500 miles each: “Its length, breadth, and height were equal”, to quote the Translator’s New Testament

Except that this would make it 125,000,000 cubic miles, which can’t be right, and would disagree with verse 17 following ##

Michael of GoG: Yes, verse 17 seems to be some kind of an anomoly in this situation. Why a wall if the city is a cube?

Physical is not equal to literal.

Is one not hearing things as they are still happening in HEAVEN?

Could the literal be spiritual? In other words, could the literal be heavenly?
