Twice the money, huh? Do they think their Mass has better prayers or something?
Well actually…
Wait… don’t answer that. 😃
… ok, but go read them yourself sometime.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the stipend actually forms a significant part of the personal income of SSPX priests, which would explain why they think $20 is appropriate.

I don’t know what its like in other parts of the world, but around here, requests for specific days go fast. You’ll have to talk to your parish secretary that keeps a calendar for mass intentions. When my father died and we requested mass intentions for him, we got some of the dates we wanted and then some were just put on the mass schedule without any notice. Perhaps your parish does it differently, but at this point in the year, you may not get the date you want.
Yes, so one can say ‘first available’ and that might be a long way out.

I had a cool thing happen with that…I went in and asked for a Mass for our nephew who died in his 20s, and said ‘first available’, which was some 9 months into the future since they had told me, "all the Masses are taken until June of next year’. I don’t usually take the Mass card they offer, and forgot all about it too. Then my wife was looking at the bulletin after Mass as usual one day, and said , “Hey!” Our nephew’s name was there in the Masses for the upcoming week, and his Mass was scheduled on her birthday! We thought it was cool! As they say, God works in mysterious ways!

God bless you.

The Holy Sacrifice of Mass, can’t be bought! It is the unbloody Sacrifice of Our Lord Jesus Christ! Repeated for our sake. It is unbloody today, but it is the same as the passion some 2000 years+ ago. So it is a good thing to give which ever money you have as a token of gratitude to God for the gift of salvation. 2Maccabees12:43. The sacrifice you make will benefit a loved one in purgatory. So please hurry and do it again and again for it is a very worthy act of charity-charity for the faithful departed!
