Can someone explain what an example of the unpardonable sin would be? Scripture says it is blaspehmy of the Holy Spirit. For some reason, I have only learned of this recently and when I did I quickly looked over my life to see if it is a sin I have comitted!

This is where we will not accept God’s forgiveness. If we are really sorry for doing this and are willing to accept God’s forgiveness we can be forgiven for even this sin.

I didn’t know that. I could be wrong, but I thought it is when the Pharisees called the works of God (casting out demons)… to be by the power of the evil one. This is absolute depravity. I’ve heard that theologians speculate that the reason for the absoluteness of this sin being UNforgivable, is that once a person has given themselves over that entirely to the works of the evil one - to accuse God of working for Satan… they will not be saved because they will never reach out to be saved. They have, in this one act, utterly rejected God forever. Any thoughts? If I’m wrong, please do correct me, and then I will be corrected and blessed by it.🙂

From the Catechism:

1864 ‘"Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.’ There are no limits to the mercy of God, but anyone who deliberately refuses to accept his mercy by repenting, rejects the forgiveness of his sins and the salvation offered by the Holy Spirit. Such hardness of heart can lead to final impenitence and eternal loss."

So the sin is to be unrepentant. God cannot save us if we choose to persist in rejecting Him.

The way I understand it is unrepentant, grave sinfulness with free will, obstinacy, and full knowledge.
