What is the "word" that heals?

Hi all,

Here is a question I always wanted to ask and never got to it till now.

At communion when the whole church says,

“Lord I am not worthy to receive you but only to say the word and I shall be healed”

Questions

A) What is the “word” that heals?
B) Healed to what extent?

What I mean is, if you are “completely” healed by the “word”

C) does that mean your sins are completely washed away, clean?

D) If that is the case, then do you believe you are 100% sure your soul is clean and you are assured of eternity in heaven should you die right there at the altar after receiving the host?

I am really having a hard time understanding catholic belief on salvation.

You all are praying for me to come home to what you believe is God’s one church and I have yet to receive an answer on salvation in which you all can agree with any certainty

If you haven’t yet visited John Martignoni’s website (www.biblechristiansociety.com)), I wouldif I were in your shoes. His information is completely orthodox (small o) and in line with the Church and he presents Catholic belief and practice using Sacred Scripture 99% of the time. There have been a few instances where he quote Church Fathers or the Catechism.

In regards to your question. What this response means is “Lord I’m not worthy to receive you but make me worthy and I shall be made worthy.”

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but the answer would yes, under a certain condition of course. Assuming that you’re free from Mortal Sin (meaning had prior Sacramental Confession) and did not receive the Body and Blood of the Lord unworthily as St. Paul talks about in his letter to the Corinthians.

If you are in a State of Grace upon receiving the Body and Blood of Christ, and God forbid, an earthquake happens, or something worse and you die, you would most assuredly enter Heaven because you were in the State of Grace.

As for Church Father quotes, Catechism references, I’ll leave that for the more experienced Catholics.

A) What is the “word” that heals?

For one to “only say the word” means it would be trivial for one to “make it so”, so the whole “line” means, “Lord, I am not worthy but with the least bit of effort you could make it so that I shall be healed”.

B) Healed to what extent?

Utterly healed of that which would most wisely BE healed on you.

What I mean is, if you are “completely” healed by the “word”

C) does that mean your sins are completely washed away, clean?

If Jesus so chooses any “unhealthy thing” could be removed from you. What you are actually healed of is that which you have reconciled with the Church.

Reconciliation removes sin. Eucharist “feeds” us for our continuing work.

D) If that is the case, then do you believe you are 100% sure your soul is clean and you are assured of eternity in heaven should you die right there at the altar after receiving the host?

The Consecrated Host “feeds” us. We need to be reconciled with the Body of Christ before we CAN take the Eucharist.

No one is ever 100% sure (certain) of heaven, which is why no one is allowed to “relax” and assume that “it’s all decided”.

But, if we have a well formed conscience and know in what state we are at any particular time, and that state is “non-mortal sin”, then we can with confidence throw ourselves on God’s infinite mercy and hope for the best.

You’re not “saved” until God decides you’re saved (going to heaven, most likely via purgatory), and just as we are not to know or in any way count on when Jesus will return, we are not to know or count on being perfectly safe such that we needn’t continue to strive for perfection.

Firstly, don’t ask individuals. Ask the Church. Individuals will have various understandings of the teachings of the Church.

You should do some research in the catechism (CCC: Salvation) for an understanding of salvation as per the Church.
