Hi everyone! I just wanted to know what the worst anti-Catholic thing that has ever happened to you or been told to you is.

I’d have to say that the worst anti-Catholic thing that I have ever been told is that the Catholic Church is the “whore of Babylon” or that Catholics “worship Mary”.

My wife, formly a non-denominational protestant, was shunned by her fundamentalist father for her conversion to the church. They have talked sparingly over the email the last four years but that is it. He has made it clear that nothing will change so long as she is Catholic.

I find this more of a fault with the man’s character than I do with his Protestantism. I offer it here though because his decision was based on her Catholic faith. He just happened to be Protestant.

God bless you

I’ve been told that Catholics

a. Have statues of “gods” in their churches
b. believe in “good works” for salvation
c. are idol worshippers
d. started the use of confession for preists to tell the police what crimes people have committed
e. started the “no meat during lent fridays” rule to help the fish market :rolleyes:

all in the past few months, all in school. letter A was said by a teacher (don’t worry we set him straight)

The last two really offended my inner historian 😛

I was told that there was a nun that ‘escaped’ from the convent. They were shocked when I told them that they could leave anytime they wanted to.

That If my father was a Knights of Columbus we couldn’t be friends because they killed protestant babies.

That Catholics were the Whore of Babylon.

I couldn’t be Catholic if I didn’t like fish.

My last name was a common first name for a Jewish man. They asked if I was Jewish. They thought I would be insulted to be thought of as Jew:shrug:

At about 12 or 13 I was harassed up by a bunch of bigger kids when I was coming home from Catholic school. They just held me down and took turns pounding on my chest wanting me to “confess” that the Pope is the anti-Christ or the devil. Fortunately an adult happened by and made them stop.

This was my first encounter with Evangelicals. From what they told me, apparently they feel that they are predestined to salvation and it makes no difference what they do, nothing can “snatch them out of His hand”. That’s dangerous stuff to tell a bunch of teenagers.

The stories my parents have from the 1950’s from how they were treated by Priests when they presented themselves to ask for marriage. They were refused without any charitable direction on how to proceed toward a Catholic marriage-both were married young with divorces from cheating spouses. Also my Dad was refused the Eucharist when standing up for my Uncle’s/his brother’s wedding. My Dad was divorced and had borught a date. That was no reason for refusal. I doubt that he was drunk or smelled of alcohol, but even if he did, no one who was there, including him forgot it. I have converted from being raised Lutheran by them to Catholicism, but I fear for my Mother’s unforgiveness in the matter and my Father’s failure to return to the Church. I have also experienced arrogance and rudeness from Priests. This should never be their character or attitude towards anyone. It is all deeply upsetting, though I have tried to coax my Mother, she makes me turn off EWTN. I have gotten my Dad hooked on Fr. Corapi, but it is a battle to the death-all from the 1950’s.

99% of Catholics are for sure going to hell. There may be SOME Catholics in heaven, but they must not haven been TRUE Catholics.

Also the rosary is a pagan idol from Hell

Wow. I am so sorry to hear that you and your family have been treated this way by priests. By the way, are you talking about Catholic priests or Lutheran priests (not sure if they are actually called priests or not)? That said, there is never any excuse for a priest to be rude to a person for any reason at all. If the behavior keeps up, you might try politely telling the priest that his behavior offends you. Perhaps he doesn’t realize that it does. If that doesn’t work, you could try going to your bishop. The priest could have a psychological condition such as depression that is affecting the way he views other people that needs to be treated.

I was voted in by a community to chair a minor softball league ages 7-18, I made a ruling that year which passed. That all teams are pray on the mound before each game. After a very successful season and before the Championship games, a board meeting was held to remove me, I asked the board for what reason did they want me removed?

One board member stood up, pointed her finger at my nose and told me, “because your Catholic”. It still hurts just thinking about it.

I quess they had just cause, because I would join the teams on game days at the mound to pray, I guess I gave myself away when I prayed in the sign of the cross, and then many of the kids began to pray in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit along with me.

Now I got more time teaching at my local parish.🙂

Iam told the league still prays before each game

Wow, that is sickening behavior on the part of that woman. She should be deeply ashamed of herself.

I don’t want to exploit this pass, I run into some of these board members, and they treat me like the plague. I guess I failed in my witness.🤷

No, I don’t think you failed in your witness. But then again, I can’t know that for sure. That is between you and God alone and possibly your confessor or spiritual director. That said, if these people are treating you like the plague, I would avoid them and when you do run in to them, treat them with Christian love. Here is a Bible verse that I absolutely love that is related to this:

(Romans 12:19 RSV) Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God; for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
(Romans 12:20 RSV) No, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head."
(Romans 12:21 RSV) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Here is the same section of Scripture in the New American Bible:

(Romans 12:19 NAB-A) Beloved, do not look for revenge but leave room for the wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.
(Romans 12:20 NAB-A) Rather, if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head.
(Romans 12:21 NAB-A) Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good.

God bless you; and thank you. But I have no ill feelings, hurt feelings maybe, and never ashamed of my Catholic faith. I have prayed for them.

I have to mention, I was an undefeated amateur boxer, and I did not medal in the state collegiate wrestle state championships, so I know victory and defeat. I am just sorry at times when some of these posters put up with my aggressive athleticism nature, which AM working with my confessor.

When our religious education director decided to exclude my teen sons from a church ministry that she invited everyone else in the youth group to (and everyone else was accepted) because of some hard feelings between her and my DH. She has effectively undone 18 years of bringing up my kids in the church with one really stupid decision on her part that has hurt so many feelings in my family. My kids now want very little to do with this parish. Before, my oldest son was a leader at youth nights, never missed a retreat, volunteered for anything he could, and was full of faith.

Now he is disillusioned, bitter, and angry.

One day this “religious education director” will have to answer to God for her actions against my sons…

Because of this, our entire family has gone from being super involved to angry and disillusioned. Some so-called “religious educators” are phony, fake, and downright MEAN.

Now it will also be a struggle to get my youngest confirmed next year, because neither he nor my DH want anything to do with this parish.

no one really has mentioned something very anti-Catholic against me. but non-Catholics (Protestants and the INCs - Iglesia ni Cristo) often would talk to me and i can feel that they think i’m in the wrong religion and that they can save me by getting me to convert to their faith

I have two stories.
  1. I heard a Baptist minister on a radio program saying that the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that the way to heaven is by works. When I asked him for specific references in the Catechism, he called me a “whorish woman.”
  2. On another forum, I was trying to explain Catholic teaching, and quoted from the Catechism. One of the moderators edited my post to read, “your book of white magic won’t save you.”

Well, don’t you feel the same about their religion? Does this make you anti-whatever their religion is?

I was bar mitzvot’ed.

Isn’t this a strange question to ask in the non-Catholic forum?

I wondered at first whether it should be in the non-Catholic forum or the Apologetics forum but I ultimately decided to put it here. I may have made a mistake in doing so. If any moderators feel it will do better in another forum, feel free to move it there. 🙂
