What does this mean though? We are not gods. How exactly does God make us into gods?
[John 14:15 **If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, THAT HE MAY ABIDE WITH YOU FOR EVER; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, AND SHALL BE IN YOU. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. 19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. 20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.]

We are divinized by the presents of God in our souls at bapism. Our human nature is united with the divine nature of the Trinity. We are a new creation our nature has been changed and divinized by the presents of God IN US.

.

In North America we are used to Latin Catholics being very “reserved” in the expression of their faith…but if you journey to Latin America or parts of Europe or even Asia you will see zealous public expressions of devotion to Our Lady and the saints…the masses will walk on their knees in honor of images of the Virgin…lay flowers and gifts at the feet of the saints…walk through the streets singing hymns of praise to the Virgin and the saints… how can anyone see these practices as even remotely Christian unless one understands, lives, and embraces deification?
How do these practices exemplify embracing deification?

How do these practices exemplify embracing deification?
If the saints and Our Lady are mere creatures, which they are, how can we glorify and praise their names, pay them homage, and ask their intercession before the throne of grace? It only makes sense if they are seen to share, in a most profound sense, in the very nature and role (specifically as meditator between man and God) of Christ…if they are not participating in the one divine sonship of Christ by grace, then all of these practices would be illogical at best and idolatry at worst.

Heard a Priest say in a homily today that the highest vocation for all Christians is to have our humanity transfigured into Divine and become glorified with God in Heaven…

When I heard this I immediately had a big smile and thought of this thread…
