Have from time to time have had conversation with a friend about Truth ,
What Is Truth and what is your interpretation of Truth,
More importantly , have you discovered Truth ?
Might sound confusing, but give it a try if you can

What is Truth?

The Gospel of John states that Jesus said to Pilate that he is a king and “came into the world … to bear witness to the truth; and all who are on the side of truth listen to my voice”, to which Pilate replied, “What is truth?” (John 18:38)

Now we don’t know what language Pilate used to speak to Jesus but if it was Latin then Pilate speaking in Latin, “QUID EST VERITAS?” (“What is truth?”). An anagram of this is “EST VIR QUI ADEST”–“It is the man who stands before you.”

I took a leadership-type seminar years ago where we examined this question a bit. With all the conflicting information out there, how do you decide which source is speaking “the truth?”

Simple. The source that agrees with ME 😃

Actually, it’s no joke. Whether it’s intelligence, insight, or truth, if we agree with someone, we say they have it.

For me, the first step toward finding the truth, is to look acknowledge that I have a bias.

Maybe more later 🤷

We get tidbits of truth in our life time, but not the entirety of truth, which will only be revealed when we have been given the beatific vision of God in heaven.

However, in this life, the more we grow closer to God, the more truth is revealed.

The Catholic Church has the fullness of “revealed,” truth.

That is, the truths found in the Church are revealed by God and will also be found in others who have also have as the Church puts it, “germs” of truth. These are the truths God has revealed to mortal man.

Some people will get upset about this, but when I learned a little about Zen philosophy, I learned that we must always seek truth for what it is, not for what we desire it to be. We must be grounded in reality, which is not necessarily our first perceptions.

A Carmelite Friar once told me he was a Zen Catholic. Doctrinal eyes would spike over this, but I understood what he meant, and in further discussion, it was the same as I understood.

In faith, he seeks only what is real, what is true and let go of anything that is not true and this is usually what is feeding our ego.

Some one once said it would be good for Catholics to get a little Zen. The person meant that Catholics need to stop chasing after allege miracles and apparitions, which are usually not real, but just coincidence.

In all, the source of truth is Jesus Christ, for He himself said, “I am the truth and the light.”

If you want truth, go to the source, Jesus Christ.

To add to this excellent post, Jesus himself stated that he is truth.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me. (John 14:6)

Some of us have structured there lives , so as to avoid anything else But Truth …
Isolating themselves as to not dwell from the light , The Truth …

In this world in which we live ,surrounded by immoral images and sounds in all its forms,
Must have within us an island of Truth , an anchorage on which we can hold on fast

An “island of Truth” – I love that image.
 
Jesus is Truth. He revealed the Truth of Himself to the Apostles (His Church), who have handed down that same Revelation of Truth, through His Church, to all of us. He will continue to reveal His Truth to His Church, up to the day that He returns in all His Glory. Plain and simple. 🤷

Truth is one; only It is called by different names. All people are seeking the same Truth; the variance is due to climate, temperament, and name. A lake has many ghats. From one ghat the Hindus take water in jars and call it ‘jal’. From another ghat the Mussalmāns take water in leather bags and call it ‘pāni’. From a third the Christians take the same thing and call it ‘water’. Suppose someone says that the thing is not ‘jal’ but ‘pāni’, or that it is not ‘pāni’ but ‘water’, or that it is not ‘water’ but ‘jal’, It would indeed be ridiculous. But this very thing is at the root of the friction among sects, their misunderstandings and quarrels. This is why people injure and kill one another, and shed blood, in the name of religion. WHO is it really that puts questions to us here? WHAT really is this ‘Will to Truth’ in us? In fact we made a long halt at the queswtion as to the origin of this Will – until at last we came to an absolute standstill before a yet more fundamental question. We inquired about the VALUE of this Will. Granted that we want the truth: WHY NOT RATHER untruth? And uncertainty? Even ignorance? (Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil, aphorism 1).

In a less important and less profound- but still important and profound - and a bedrock of reasoning:

Truth in the mind is the conformity of the mind with what is outside the mind - with reality.

Truth is regarding reality. Knowing truth is conforming ones mind to that extra-mental reality.
 
Here is a quote from Nicholas Cusanas’ On Learned Ignorance:
“For truth is not something more or something less but is something indivisible. Whatever is not truth cannot measure truth precisely. . . Hence, the intellect, which is not truth, never comprehends truth so precisely that truth cannot be comprehended infinitely more precisely. For the intellect is to truth as [an inscribed] polygon is to [the inscribing] circle. The more angles the inscribed polygon has the more similar it is to the circle. However, even if the number of its angles is increased ad infinitum, the polygon never becomes equal [to the circle] unless it is resolved into an identity with the circle. . .
